Welcome to DC Software Systems, a web site for my work, projects and activities. I’m Dan Cooper, a software developer with over 25 years experience in creating software solutions. I approach programming with a love of building things and creating. Writing software to construct something new out of an idea, something that solves a problem or makes someone’s task easier, is the spark that gets me up in the morning. I’m incredibly lucky to have a profession doing something that I love.
Software development is constantly changing. When I look at software that I’ve created that is still in use after 10 or 15 years, it’s a bit of a thrill that I’ve had that influence, but I also think about how I could have made it better today. New tools, new platforms, new techniques, and new languages are always emerging and could be applied, but additionally experience has taught me to be a better programmer. Even when I’m not involved in a work project I try to do a little programming every day, usually using a new technology or language. I learn much faster when I have to figure out how to get something working.
